The brief
The clients were building an extension to create more dining and living space, including levelling the floor heights in the existing kitchen-diner and blocking up a door to maximise usable kitchen space. They love to cook and entertain – Kate was even treated to a G&T during her visit – so a practical island with seating for socialising was essential. Additionally, they wanted a drinks bar/dresser and a wine cabinet to enhance the space.

The kitchen was designed using solid timber Shaker cabinets from the Woburn range, painted in Thyme with a Silestone Desert Silver Suede worktop and Sea Salt island to complete the look. To address the issue of the large island being too far from the main kitchen, we designed a second, smaller prep island closer to the cooking area. This provides added functionality while keeping the large island for seating and social interaction.
For the drinks bar, we created a bespoke bi-folding dresser designed to resemble a standalone piece of furniture with a Dupont-edged worktop to set it apart from the rest of the kitchen. We integrated a Caple wine cabinet that matches the size and look of an oven, placing it beneath a combination microwave oven, with full-height integrated fridge and freezer units on either side for maximised storage. Additional storage solutions include a pull-out larder, internal drawers, and a steaming tap. Flick through the images below to see the drawings, renders and what the kitchen looked like before.
The Result
The combination of Thyme and Sea Salt brings a fresh, inviting feel, while the Silestone Desert Silver Suede worktops offer a modern matte texture that complements the cabinetry beautifully. The bespoke drinks bar/dresser stands out as a unique feature, and the integrated Caple wine cabinet has met their high expectations! The additional storage solutions, including the pull-out larder and internal drawers, keep the kitchen organised and functional, making it a perfect space for a family that loves cooking and hosting guests!
The clients are thrilled with their new kitchen, particularly the smaller prep island, which has become a part of their daily cooking routine. The kitchen’s layout works perfectly for both entertaining and everyday use.
